First Days

The boys started school this week. Liam’s first day was Tuesday. They had a half day, to sort of get them used to the idea that school was back in session. And his first full day was yesterday. He loves it! He loves his teacher, Mrs. Hodill, and he’s enjoying 1st Grade – his first year of full-day school. He’s just growing up way too fast for my taste. Here’s a photo of him just before we went to school on Tuesday…

*sigh* I love that they make them wear ties for special occasions! He looks so cute.

And his very first packed lunch ever for his very first full day of school ever…Peanut Butter and Honey on slightly toasted bread (just as ordered), strawberries and string cheese. Yummy!

Sean’s first day was yesterday. He’s in Pre-K, so it’s just a half day, three days a week. I love this red tie on him. It’s sooo Seanie. He loves it, too, believe it or not. He says it makes him look like DK. I think he’s right…

In Sean’s class, his teacher, Mrs. Wessley, read the class a book before the parental paparazzi left the room. The book is The Kissing Hand. It’s about a little boy racoon who is afraid to go to school for the first time, so his mom gives him a special kiss on the palm of his hand, for him to “keep with him” all day as a reminder that his mommy loves him. Mrs. Wessley reads it every year to every new group of students. This year, she added her own twist. When she had read the book, instead of the kids getting a “kissing hand” from their moms and dads and giving one to them to send them on their way, she had them kiss these little fuzzy pom poms. The parents did it, too, and we exchanged pom poms with our kids. Seanie kissed a red pom pom and gave it to me. I kissed an orange pom pom and gave it to him, and we kept them through the day and showed them to each other when he got home. Patrick thought it was a little weird, but he wasn’t there for the story. I thought it was sweet. Great idea for kids who get homesick when they have to go to school for the first time. So here’s Sean kissing his pom pom before giving it to me…

You look like you need a kissing hand, too.
